Welcome to The Children’s Book Quote of the Day blog! Most people are aware of the manifold benefits of reading to children, but children’s literature also has a lot of wisdom to offer adults. In this blog, I will share the bits of insight I gain from immersing myself in books for children. I love children’s books of all varieties, from picture board books for infants to chapter books for older children who long to be called “young adults.” You will see here offerings from all kinds of books. I am always open to opening a new book, so if you have suggestions please make a comment on any post!

Just wanted to say how much I love this blog. I enjoy the excerpts from all the different books, but also enjoy how you apply them to your life each day! Thank you for this treasure trove of great words from literature!
Thanks for reading and for commenting! We appreciate your encouragement.
I found your blog while looking for quotes to post in the elementary school library where I work. I appreciate your blog, and I can relate to it as a mom and an elementary teacher!
Thanks so much, Leslie! We really appreciate you reading. Next week is our one-year anniversary as a blog so we’ll be having a give-away. Be sure to read next week!
I’m in love with your blog site. I often look for inspiration from books when I need a boost in my child-rearing…and childrens’ books are usually where I find ‘just the one’ I need. Thanks so much, not only for the site, but for the insites, as well!
I love this blog so much. It cheers me to know people still value quality children’s literature — I’m getting my Master’s in Elementary Education right now, and some of my professors don’t even understand the magic of Stuart Little or Harriet the Spy! Glad that plenty of other folks out there do. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Julia. I can’t believe your professors could teach educators and not know the magic of Stuart and Harriet!!!
Kristi-I enjoy reading your blog. It brings back lots of memories of reading time with the children. I enjoy your adult lessons out of the book too, it is a good website for me to check in the midst of the day. I know I am late in your contest, but just wanted you to know Amy and I enjoyed thinking of our favorite children’s book. Many that were already listed, like Goodnight Moon, and Love You Forever. One that Paige had us read over and over was Tell Me Somthing Happy Before I Go to Sleep by Jocye Dunbar. Again, your blog is very nice and we enjoy it alot.
Aw, thanks Gayle. I will have to look for the Joyce Dunbar book–I haven’t heard of it.
Hi, Kristi! How do I get what I sent you yesterday posted to your blog? I’m a newbie with blogging with wordpress.com and look forward to posting something at the beginning of each week — I am the author of 36 books, including award-winning books for children, and have several thousand published articles and stories. Obviously I’m immersed in the writing world so hopefully what I share will be interesting, informative and encouraging to your blog bunch.
Hello! Do you have a daily subscription e-mail that you send out? I would love to read what you post and don’t want to miss it!
Thanks!
Priscilla, I think you can just subscribe to the blog and get regular updates (I don’t really know–that’s just what I think). But we post every day, so if you just add us to your favorites, you shouldn’t miss anything. 🙂 Thanks so much for reading!
Found your blog while looking for well-written children’s book quotes. We are trying to use them for teaching our children grammar, style, and how to quote accurately. I love iyour blog! It helps with my search and inspires at the same time. Thank you so very much.
Hi,
Just wanted to stop in and let you know I think your blog is fantastic! I love it so much, I featured it with a link on my company’s Facebook page. You can check it by searching: LitLife: Linking Literacy Leaders. We are a company that advocates for children’s literacy and provides professional development for teachers in reading and writing. Thanks again for the glorious content!
Debbie
Thanks, Debbie! I found your company on Facebook and liked it.
Thank you so so much for this amazing blog. I love to read through it and see all the books that you have picked out, my favorite books of all time are the Harry Potter books and of course peter pan, i love reading and remembering those quotes that i love so much when i am having a really bad day, this whole sight gives me a little lift when i am feeling down, so thank you xxx
Thank you for reading. Those are some of my favorite books too (obviously). You are exactly right–children’s books are the best kind of pick-me-up for a down day. 🙂
I love your blog – I am obsessed with children’s books and take these quotes to heart! Reading with my 4 yr old is such an treasured experience for me (and I hope him). We are huge Peter Pan fans, and just finished “The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe”, which he is begging me to read again! I would love it if you had a reading list somewhere, as we seem to burn through books faster than I can pick them out!
Jen, thanks for your comment. I’m so glad you enjoy the blog. As for a reading list, I highly recommend What To Read When by Pam Allyn. It includes readings lists by age as well as a pretty extensive list of books for different stages or moments in a child’s life, such as welcoming a new baby or dealing with death. I think I bought the book at Amazon.com. Another one that I love is The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. It’s an older book, but still full of great recommendations for children’s literature to read with your children.
If your son loved “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe,” you should definitely move on to the rest of the series. All great. Other chapter books he may enjoy in series are any by E.B. White. But don’t forget all the wonderful picture books out there! The Arthur books by Marc Brown seem to be a favorite of that age group and I’ve read “Caps for Sale” by Esphyr Slobodkina to Head Start classes and it has never failed to captivate.
Kristi ~ I am an Education major in my freshman year of college and must admit when packing, Sara Plain & Tall and other children’s classics were in my box of things for school. During this transition to adulthood, I cling tightly to my memories from childhood, most being my late nights reading under the blankets with a flashlight. Thank you so much for all you do with this blog, I found it a few weeks ago and have gone back and read ALL of your posts, they are such a blessing!!! Thanks again for showing me it’s okay to cling to Anne of Green Gables and so many other friends of my childhood…
Sarah, this comment made my day. 🙂 Thank you for reading my blog. I am so glad to see someone like you majoring in Education. People who love Anne of Green Gables and Sarah Plain and Tall make the best educators…and citizens.
I’m going to the expert for this question-any famous quote about reading or books and water (lake preferably)? Looking for a great quote to put on the wall of a library. We are located right on Lake Erie and the new mural it will be associated with will be a lake theme. Fish, fishing, boats, etc. Any ideas you can give me? Thanks. Feel free to email me at the address attached.
hmmmmm. This will take some thinking. I will definitely mull it over and let you know if I come up with anything. 🙂
I am an 18 year old who loves writing for children and i hope to one day get my books published, i found this blog when looking for quotes to go at the begining of the chapters in a book i am writing and i have been hooked ever since, some of these quotes just make me smile and others make me remember the kind of things that i valued when i was a child, it is really great to come on here and to read them, thank you xxxx
I need to switch email addresses that this post comes to. I already added my personal email addy, but I need to stop posts coming to my work email – I get too many work emails & I don’t have time to relax and enjoy your posts like I would like! 😦 I don’t want to post either of my email addys publicly, but I would be happy to shoot someone an email with my work addy so it can be removed, but I can’t find anyone’s email addy to do this. Can someone help me out?
Thanks! 🙂
Kristi, thank you again and again for doing this. I am a teacher librarian in an elementary school, but I find myself dealing more with technology than books, which makes me sad. One day I had an idea to put a quote from a book outside the library every day to remind myself that books are important. The feedback has been positive…both from kids AND teachers. In searching for some help with quotes, I stumbled upon your blog, and I’m in love. I want to copy it. 🙂 It would be the same, but different. You’re awesome.
Thank you for reading and commenting! I’m so glad you like the blog. We hope to keep it going for a long, long time. 🙂
What a wonderful find! I’d love to provide a children’s book quote print from my etsy store if you’re interested in having a contest.

I would LOVE to have a contest! Thanks, Carrie. You can send me an email at kristibrokaw@yahoo.com.
Hi Kristi
I really like your site. I think some books you should definitely read are “Love, Aubrey”, “Rules”, “Princess Academy”, “Out of the Dust”, and “Walk Two Moons.” My favorites are “walk two moons” and “princess academy” (which isn’t really girly and all about prissy princesses and things like that– it’s awesome!) I hope you thoroughly consider these books even if your son doesn’t want to read these books– you can read it by yourself!!! They are really, really, really, good.
I will add the ones I haven’t read to my library list–THANK YOU for the recommendations! And thanks for reading the blog. 🙂
Dear Kristi,
Sorry I made a mistake because I just looked it up and saw you already read walk two moons and rules.
Cheers.
Dear Kristi –
I am deeply impressed with your work here. The quotes you find have enormous depth, and speak to aspects of childhood, parenthood, and human-hood that makes this a very powerful endeavor. It is an emotional experience to read through these quotes, and also your comments, and feel the complexity, joy, pain, and learning that is intrinsic in being/raising a child.
Like you, I am committed to documenting that complexity. My writing and concept are not as elegant as the format you’ve chosen, but I hope to speaking to some of the true aspects of our experiences with authenticity. I would be honored if you’d check out my blog and give me feedback.
I’m also curious about you – how you come to this, how you balance between motherhood and your creativity, how you created this blog in concept and practice. You may prefer to keep more private, and if that’s the case I certain understand. If you are open to starting a dialogue, however, I would welcome the opportunity.
Warmest regards,
Audrey
Thanks, Audrey! Your comment is beautifully composed and heartfelt. I really appreciate it. I would love to dialogue with you.
Kristi, I’ve been using this blog for a while to pull quotes that I can use with my fifth grade reading class. A little book quote can be fun to discuss and spark their interest in a book. I just now took a closer look and realized that I know you from Abilene! 🙂 Thanks for the awesome quotes! Do you mind if I post your link on my education blog?
Hi Casey! Thanks for reading. We would be honored and delighted for you to link to our blog on your site. Blessings! 🙂
Kristi,
It seems like you are going through some storms. I am so blessed to read these quotes and hear your heart with raw honesty and truthfulness. All of it matters. And He really does work it all together for good. Keep running/walking/pushing/crawling. Whatever it takes to just take another step 🙂
Meg
Also, I use your quotes a lot to headline my blog posts. 1-Is this OK? And 2-How do I appropriately site you? 🙂
Meg
Thanks, Meg. It’s fine with me that you use the quotes! I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner–not sure how I missed it. I don’t know exactly how you would site me, but some people just add a link back to the blog when they do it. Maybe do that?
Beautiful quotes – thank you for sharing!!
