Something to stand on March 11, 2011

The world is so you have something to stand on. (from A Hole Is To Dig by Ruth Krauss)

 Today I heard a young lady call into a radio program from Tokyo. She said her dad was stationed there with the US military. The world beneath her feet was shaken only hours before, the reports and haunting video footage of places not so far from her were already everywhere. But she said her hope and security was in her belief in God, not in a building or a city, a government, or even her family. She said she was afraid and that she longed for her dad to be home with them (I guess he is deployed elsewhere) but that she was reminding herself as often as necessary to turn her mind back to those things that don’t shake even when the earth does.

I cannot even imagine what the people of Japan are going through today, what they will continue to experience in the days and months to come. Pray for Japan. Find a way to help. And find some comfort and hope in what a scared young lady was able to see through her fear.

    Love it, Kristi. It’s amazing and encouraging to hear of her focusing her hope on God in the midst of and so soon after such a big tragedy. Your post immediately reminds me of this hymn, and I just had to look up the words to make sure I had it right.

    My hope is built on nothing less
    Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
    I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
    But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

    On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
    All other ground is sinking sand;
    All other ground is sinking sand.

    And helping those people and letting them know they are thought of is definitely a wonderful way to show God’s love.
