Light Words February 27, 2011

But it is the way of my people to use light words at such times and say less than we mean.  We fear to say too much.  It robs us of the right words when a jest is out of place. (from The Return of the King by J R R Tolkien)

I love this quote because I identify with it. I’m always thinking of jokes a inappropriate times and getting the giggles in situations that are serious. I think a lot of people are like that. When things get to deep, we reach for humor because it is buoyant; it allows us to float upwards a little.
