“Wow!” said Raccoon. “Your what-ifs are wonderful, Duck.” (from Ready For Anything! by Keiko Kasza)

Benjamin and I found this book at the public library. It’s delightful. It begins with Raccoon canceling his picnic with Duck because of all the terrible things that might happen. “What if we are attacked by killer bees?” “What if we fall into a river?” “What if we swim for our lives, but a terrible storm strikes?” Initially, Duck falls into the trap of Raccoon’s terrible what-ifs and the two friends find themselves huddled under a blanket on the couch.

But Duck is my kind of bird. He says, “But Raccoon, what if some lovely butterflies pass by instead of bees?” Suddenly, they are imagining just how lovely a picnic can be. I love it!

So, let me ask you…what do your what-ifs look like?
