They Lift You Up September 16, 2009

Filed under: Classics — Kristi @ 3:56 am

“You just think lovely wonderful thoughts,” Peter explained, “and they lift you up in the air.” (from Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie)

Dew on a daisy. The sound when I bite into a really good apple. Wading in the surf at dusk. The smell of a new book.  The enveloping warmth of a bubble bath on sore muscles. The first flutter of new love. A bride sweeping down the aisle. The first fetal heartbeat. The first tiny kick from within. The messy glory of birth. The soft weight of a baby on my shoulder. A two-tooth grin I know is just for me.

That’s my list. Please share yours.

  1. Amber Says:

… reaching the top of a mountain and taking in the view, paddling a canoe around a peaceful lake, scuba diving and witnessing a part of God’s creation that few ever experience, ending the day in a quiet home with a great husband and a dog whose tail cannot hide his happiness.
(My list is a little different 🙂 )

  2. Shanna Says:

the feeling of a dog wagging her stub tail so hard it shakes the whole bed, just because she saw your eyes open in the morning; the feeling of a horse’s velvet-soft muzzle brushing gently against your cheek in greeting; a spindly-legged foal following you around like a puppy dog; the taste of blackberries fresh off the bush and the red-stained fingers that go with it; the sound of Daddy’s laughter; Ireland (which could have a list all on it’s own); the smell of crayons in autumn; the look on a student’s face when he/she sees a higher grade than expected; a crescent moon bright stars scattered across a big, deep blue Texas sky, and a good friend softly singing “The Color Green”; I think I could go on, but I’ll stop there. This is fun!

“Cogito, ergo sum.” Descarte was on to something but I think Peter perfected it. Love this quote!

    Well said, Sharpmama.

Joy, I love that you’ve been keeping a list for years–what a great way to practice the art of contentment. Many of the things are your list are also on my extended list!
